Project Overview

This bespoke multi-purpose classroom and pavilion was created to support both learning and community use at Oakview Primary School. Designed as a flexible, all-year-round space, the building enriches education while strengthening the school’s connection with its wider community.

The Brief

Oakview Primary required a versatile external building that could function as an outdoor classroom, a covered play space, and a welcoming area for parents and visitors. The design needed to be practical, inclusive, and visually distinctive, while complementing the existing school environment.

The Solution

We designed and delivered a bespoke pavilion-style building that brings together learning, play, and community use in one flexible structure.

The building functions as:

• An outdoor classroom
• An all-year-round play area
• A covered meeting space for parents and spectators during sports events

Internally, the space includes a day classroom, kitchenette, and an accessible toilet, ensuring it is as functional as it is adaptable.

Architecturally, the sweeping curvature of the pavilion creates a striking contrast to the school’s 1970s-built main building. Finished in natural larch cladding, the structure has a warm, contemporary feel that stands out confidently within the school grounds.

The Outcome

The completed pavilion provides Oakview Primary with a flexible, future-ready space that supports a wide range of activities throughout the school year. By extending learning beyond the traditional classroom and creating new opportunities for community interaction, the building plays a key role in reinforcing the school’s place at the heart of its local community.
