Project Overview

This purpose-built sixth form centre was designed to give students at St Benedict’s Catholic School a dedicated space to study, socialise, and access staff support - all within one carefully considered building.

The Brief

St Benedict’s required a standalone sixth form facility that could comfortably support 60-70 students, providing a balance of independent study space, communal areas, and staff facilities. The building needed to feel distinct from the main school while remaining practical, inclusive, and energy efficient.

The Solution

We designed and delivered a 185sqm modular sixth form centre that brings together learning, relaxation, and staff support under one roof.

The layout includes:

• A spacious common room with kitchenette
• Dedicated study areas
• An accessible bathroom
• A rear office space for two staff members

To extend the building beyond indoor use, a decked outdoor social area was incorporated at the rear - giving students space to relax and connect throughout the day.

The Outcome

The finished building provides a calm, modern environment that supports both academic focus and student wellbeing. Sustainability was central to the design, with triple-glazed windows, air conditioning, and an air source heat pump ensuring year-round comfort and efficiency.

Achieving an A-rated energy performance, the sixth form centre is a future-proof space that reflects the school’s commitment to both education and environmental responsibility.
